Amir Khan targets Floyd Mayweather showdown

Soccer Extreme : Amir Khan has set his sights on facing Floyd Mayweather following his fifth-round stoppage of Zab Judah in Las Vegas, Nevada.

WBA light-welterweight champion Khan took the IBF belt from Judah on Saturday night with a pinpoint body shot that sent the American to his knees. Judah claimed he had been hit with a low blow but television replays showed the punch had landed right on the belt of the 33-year-old’s shorts.

Khan is now planning to move up to welterweight at the end of the year, possibly after one more fight at light-welterweight against domestic rival Kell Brook, and a showdown with unbeaten Mayweather may well be on the cards next summer.

Mayweather has even suggested it could go down on British soil after telling reporters earlier this weekend: “I'd loved to go over and put on a great show and a great fight for my number one fans.

“When I went over there 5,000 fans watched me train. It was truly marvellous.

“I'd like to fight at Wembley, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.”

Khan’s business manager Asif Vali is now hoping that a deal can be struck to get Khan and Mayweather in the same ring in the United Kingdom, but Brook looks set to be first up for the Briton.

Vali told Sky Sports News: “Amir will move up to 147 after December. That is something that he is looking to do in December or early next year.

“And what we'll be looking to do is maybe have one more fight in the UK. Kell Brook is there at 147 - that's a fight that interests the British fans.

“After that, the summer, Mayweather is there. Yesterday he came out and made a statement. He wants to fight Amir in the UK, so I hope he sticks by it.” (crunchsports)
